Fri 12th August
|
Capenhurst
Villa Res 1 v
2 South
Liverpool....This was a close
encounter against a decent looking
South Liverpool side. Unfortunately we
allowed them a 2 goal first half lead,
conceding in the 17th and 29th minute,
0-2. On his return, back to the
Cape fold, Mark (sparky)
Ryan, did get us a goal back in
the 70th minute, with a well taken
strike, but it couldn't inspire a
second goal, and we just couldn't peg
them back. Cape MoM was the lively Jamie
Johnson.

Capenhurst
Villa 2
v 4 Maghull Res ..... Well
Cape started off really well and took
an early lead through Steve Morgan,
after good work from Graeme Davidson,
1-0. Unfortunately The visitors were
awarded a dubious penalty, right on
half-time, to level 1-1. From then on
it was a downward spiral, as Maghull
claimed their second penalty on 51
mins, and cape subsequently had a man
sent off, 1-2. Then Maghull pressed
home their one man advantage, and
scored quickfire goals to lead 4-1 on
75 mins. Capes Steve Morgan did
score again late on, but this proved
to be a consolation effort. 2-4. MoM Scott
Riach.

Manor
Athletic 1
v 1 Capenhurst
Villa .....Well this was an even
game, with a 0-0 scoreline at
half-time. Manor took the lead, just 5
mins into the second half and were
just about on top, but a wonder
free-kick from Capes Graeme
Davidson drew us level, with just
5 mins remaining. 1-1 and a welcome
point. Cape Mom once again was Scott
Riach.

Capenhurst
Villa Res 0
v 1 Manor Athletic Res .....
This was one to forget really, as
Villa never really got going. We went
behind on 20 mins to a penalty, and
just couldn't muster a decent effort
on goal, for the remainder of the
match. MoM was the industrious Dave
Jackson.

Capenhurst
Villa 0
v 0 Prescot
Cables Res .....Apart from the
visitors crossbar being rattled, early
in the first half, there was nothing
really to speak of, as regards to
goalmouth action. Both sides cancelled
each other out, as defences were
generally on top. Capenhursts Graeme
Davidson took the MoM .
Ellesmere Port Res 1
v 5 Capenhurst
Villa Res ..... A cracking
result for the Cape, as local our
rivals Ellesmere Port Res were put to
the sword. We took an early lead
through Damien Mcginnigle, and
this was quickly added to, by a rare
goal from defender Andy Weaver
2-0. Two more goals were to come
before the half-time whistle, as Andy
Crawford banged in both, half-time
4-0. Andy then duly grabbed his
hat-trick in the 2nd period, with The
Port grabbing a last minute
consolation. Final score 5-1. Cape Mom
after a superb hat-trick, was Andy
Crawford.

Capenhurst
Villa Res 2
v 3 Upton AA Res ..... This
was a close run affair in the end. But
we cant afford to give teams a 2 goal
start before we start playing. Upton
went ahead as early as the 3rd minute
and bagged another on 32 minutes to go
2-0 up at half time. Jamie Johnson
reduced the defecit on the hour 1-2,
only for the visitors to score
straight from the re-start 1-3. Jamie
Johnson score his second header of
the game, to make it 2-3 on 70 mins,
but we couldn't find the equaliser.
Final score 2-3 Cape Mom Jamie
Johnson.

Capenhurst
Villa 3
v 1 Mallaby.....
At last Cape found their shooting
boots, and claimed a worthy win,
against a stubborn Mallaby. Villas Scott
Riach opened the scoring on 38
mins, with a tap in, after a goalmouth
scramble 1-0. But we switched off, and
Mallaby scored just 2 mins later to
level, 1-1 half time. Cape came out
the more confident in the second half,
and Rob Macdowell made it 2-1,
with a far post header on 65mins,
after good work from Steve Morgan. And
with 3 points now looming, defender Phil
Strapp, put the game beyond doubt
on 70 mins, with a towering header
from a Lewis Walters corner 3-1. A
more than welcome 3 points. Cape Mom
was the hard working Rob Macdowell.

Ashville Res 4
v 4 Capenhurst Villa
.... Well this was 2 points thrown
away, as we were cruising to a 4-2 win
with just 4 mins left, then gave 2
soft goals away, to come away with a
disappointing solitary point. Two goals from
Villas MoM Mike Urmston, and a goal
apiece from Mark Ryan, and Nick Cushing,
didn't prove enough, as we leaked 4
goals in return. The draw specialists
strike again.Capenhurst
Villa Res 1
v 3 Mossley Hill Res .....
Cape went 3-0 down after just 17 mins,
and it looked like we could
suffer a proper hammering, but Cape
pulled their socks up, and Cape MoM Andy
Crawford, pulled a goal back on 40
mins 1-3. Unfortunately no more real
chances were forthcoming in the second
half, and the sending off of Capes
Jamie Johnson didn't aid our cause.
Cape MoM was goalscorer Andy
Crawford.

|
Christleton Res 0
v 0 Capenhurst Villa
Res ..... Well
this was a cracking game, and not the
bore draw the 0-0 scoreline suggests.
Christleton used the long ball to good
effect, putting Cape under serious
pressure a number of times, as Cape
played some attractive football but
without the real cutting edge. So 0-0
it finished but most who were watching
agreed it was a good game of football.
After a faultless display, Capenhurst
MoM was Lewis Walters.

Bronze Social 3
v 1 Capenhurst Villa ..... A
bad day at the office, as 10 man cape
lose at Bronze. We lost a man as early
as the 14th minute, and from thereon
it was mostly downhill. Bronze
ran out more than comfortable winners,
and an Alan Locke goal in the
80th minute proved just a consolation.
Besides being a man down, too many
players under performed and MoM,
keeper Sam Smith needed to be
at his best, to save any further
embarassment.

Runcorn
Linnets Res 3
v 3 Capenhurst
Villa ..... Cape went a goal
down on 14 mins to the league leaders
0-1, but Cape were well on top, and Cam
Forster levelled on 27 mins
1-1. We then fell asleep, and Runcorn
restored their lead just 2 mins later
1-2. Mark (Sparky) Ryan then finished
well, to make it 2-2 on 37 mins, half
time 2-2. The game flowed from end to
end, and the home side were awarded a
penalty on 70 mins 2-3. Capes Graeme
Davidson duly obliged, and scored
an equaliser on 72 mins 3-3. A point
was a good result against the current
league leaders, but it was Cape keeper Greg
Edwards who stole the show, with a last minute
penalty save, for a well deserved share
of the spoils. Cape MoM was the lively
Mike Urmston.
Capenhurst
Villa Res 2
v 1 Chester Nomads Res
..... A great 3 points, as Cape
hit form. The game was a stale mate at
half time 0-0, but Cape sparked into
life in the second period. Goals from
in form, and MoM Jamie Johnson
and youngster Tom Hockley with
the winner, gave
Villa a welcome 3 points. Nomads did
reply to our opener, to level at 1-1,
but Tom ensured the 3 points went
Capes way, with a neat finish on 75
mins.

New
Brighton Res 2
v 0 Capenhurst
Villa Res..... Unfortunately Cape
made an early exit from the Wirral
Amateur cup, as the Seasiders bagged 2
second half goals to go through. This
was a close fought affair, with a good
few chances at either end. The chances
which Cape created, the New Brighton
keeper was a match for, as he pulled
off a number of good saves to keep the
home side in the match. final score
0-2.

Tarporley
Victoria 2
v 4 Capenhurst
Villa ..... Cape travelled to
Tarporley Victoria in the Cheshire Cup
and Capes Mike Urmston stole the show
with a superb hat-trick. The game was
level at half-time, after Mike
Urmston followed up a Mark Ryan
effort on 11 mins, to tap home. The
home side levelled on 44 mins, 1-1.
Villa came out in the second half and
put on a great display, and Urmo
completed his hat-trick, with goals in
the 64th and 69th minutes. Mark
McAffrey put the result beyond
doubt in the 77th minute 4-1, and Vics
claimed a consolation on 87 mins. 4-2.
Onwards to round 2.
Merseyside
Police 1
v 0 Capenhurst
Villa Res..... No such luck
for the rezzies, as we went down to a
solitary effort at Merseyside Police
0-1. Cape were never out of this game,
and made more than enough chances to
win, or at the very least, grab a
point, but it wasn't to be, and the
Police held on. Cape MoM was the
quickly improving Tom Hockley.

Capenhurst
Villa 2
v 3 New Brighton ..... A
disappointing result against a
reasonable New Brighton side. Not for
the first time this season we gave the
opposition a decent lead by half time
0-3. This proved too big a mountain to
climb, as goals from Andy Crawford,
and MoM Mike Urmston in the
second half, nearly gave us a result
we probably didn't deserve. Back to
the drawing board.
New
Brighton Res 1
v 2 Capenhurst
Villa Res ..... Two
first half goals gave us a great
result at Harrison Drive, as the
rezzies showed the first team how it
was done. Matty Lancaster, put
Cape 1-0 up after just 10 mins, and
MoM Damian McGinnigle, slotted
home on 40 mins, to give us a 2-0 half
time lead. Both teams cancelled each
other out in the second half, with the
home side grabbing a late consolation
to make it a nervous finish
2-1.

Capenhurst
Villa 3
v 0 Richmond Raith
Rovers ..... A good win and a
pleasing clean sheet. But it wasn't
all plain sailing, as the visitors
belied their lowly league position,
and peppered the Cape goal in a hectic
first half, with keeper Greg Edwards
pulling off 3 cracking saves to keep
the score-line 0-0 at half time. The
game was end to end throughout, with
some nice football being played by
both sides, and in the 71st minute Lewis
Walters got cape off the mark 1-0
with a neat finish. The industrious Alan
Locke added a 2nd goal just 4
minutes later 2-0, and in-form Mike
Urmston completed the scoring on
82 mins 3-0. Mom Rob Macdowell.
Helsby 1
v 2 Capenhurst
Villa Res ..... What
a cracking win, as Cape put the
unbeaten league leaders Helsby to the
sword. Lee Chadwick gave Cape
an early lead in the 9th minute 1-0,
as league leaders Helsby were
shell-shocked with Capes early play.
The home side pulled a goal back just
before half time 1-1. But Cape came
out just as determined as the first
half, with Tom Hockley involved in
most of Capes good play. And it was
defender Lee Reynolds, who
provided the killer punch on 85 mins,
with a cracker of a free kick to break
Helsby hearts 2-1. Well done
boys...Cape Mom was the quickly
improving young keeper, Reece Daly.

Capenhurst
Villa 1
v 2 Cammell Laird Res ..... A good
performance against division one
opposition, but missed chances cost us
dearly. We outperformed Lairds
throughout the game, and the visiting
keeper pulled of several class saves,
to save the visitors blushes. A Mark
Ryan goal in the 79th minute
looked to have taken us into extra
time, after Lairds had taken a 20th
minute lead. But it wasn't to be, as
they scored an undeserved winner in
the 88th minute, to break cape hearts,
and condemn us to an early exit from
the Wirral Senior cup.
Neston
Nomads 3
v 2 Capenhurst
Villa Res ..... What
a contrast from last week, as the
rezzies snatched defeat from the jaws
of victory. Cape were 2-1 up with just
5 mins play left, after 2 well taken
goals from Damian McGinnigle,
had given us what we thought was a
comfortable win. But we conceded
two late goals, to come away empty
handed, from a game which maybe too
many players were thinking would be an
easy win. We cant take any team for
granted. MoM Damian McGinnigle.

West Kirby
Res 0
v 4 Capenhurst
Villa ..... Cape went through
to round 2 of the West Cheshire bowl,
after a easy 4-0 victory away to West
Kirby Res. Goals from Mark Ryan
and Ian Forster gave us a 2-0
half-time lead. Further 2nd half
strikes from Lewis Walters and Rob
McDowell saw us safely through
4-0. Cape MoM was the lively
Mike Urmston.
Capenhurst
Villa Res 3
v 2 Belfry ..... A great 3
points, as Cape cruised to a 2-0
half-time lead, but then took their
foot off the gas, to allow the
visitors a sniff of a chance. Jack
Sheppard got Cape off top a flyer
after 9 mins, and Tom Hockley
scored just 2 mins later, to increase
our lead 2-0. We were playing some
nice football and should have been
more than 2-0 up at half time. Cape
seemed to come out sloppy in the
second half, and allowed Belfry a
early 2nd half goal on 52 minutes 2-1.
The visitors now had their tails up,
and were unlucky not to level, until
the referee awarded Cape a 79th minute
penalty, duly dispatched by Capes Mom Jamie
Johnson 3-1, to ease the nerves.
Belfry did snatch another goal late
on, but we held on to take all 3
points 3-2.

Govan
Athletic 0
v 4 Capenhurst
Villa ..... Cape, cruised through
to the last 16 of the Cheshire Amateur
cup, with a fine away win. Our second
4-0 win in 2 weeks. Capes Mark Ryan
opened the scoring in the 10th minute,
with a tap in, after a good Cape move
1-0. Cape stretched their lead in the
25th minute, when a Govan defender
headed into his own net, under pressure from Capes Tony Ashton.
Half-time 2-0. And it was Tony
Ashton himself, who made it 3-0 in
the 71st minute, with a thumping
header. And leading scorer Mike
Urmston completed the rout in the
90th minute, with a neat finish to
make it a comfortable 4-0 win. Onwards
and upwards.
Capenhurst
Villa Res 0
v 1 Hale Res ..... A
disappointing result against rock
bottom Hale, who it has to be said,
belied their lowly league position,
with a good performance. Cape never
really got started and succumbed to
Hale pressure in the 85th minute 0-1.
Cape MoM was once again, young keeper Rees
Daly, who pulled off some great
saves, but was overworked on the day,
and needs more help from his defence.

Heswall Res
0 v 1 Capenhurst
Villa ..... Cape, stuttered
to a 1-0 win against a struggling
Heswall Reserves side. A win
nevertheless, after a decent first
half, Cape just about struggled
through, after a 26th minute strike
from capes Nick Cushing, with a
superb free kick, gave us a 1-0 lead.
Our 2nd half performance, was just a
shadow of how we have been playing in
the previous month or so. But we
scraped through in the end. The lively
marksman Mike Urmston earned
the Cape MoM.
Capenhurst
Villa Res 0
v 1 Ellesmere Port Res ..... A
big disappointment to go out of the
shield to our local rivals. Cape had
more than enough of the play to get a
result, but it wasn't to be. The early
sending off of Capes Jack Sheppard
obviously didn't help our cause. Capes
MoM was Jamie Johnson, who
caused the most problems for the Port
defence.

Villa Res 2
v 1 Ellesmere Port Res .....
After the
first team had a wasted trip to
Prescot Cables, with the game being
called off, the Rezzies took all the
plaudits, and three points, in the
local derby, against Ellesmere Port
Reserves. Ian (Army) Armstrong
hit a second half double, after an
even first half finished 0-0. Army
scored a well crafted opener on 55
mins, and added to this on 66 mins,
with a confidently taken penalty. The
port scored a consolation on 75 mins,
and made it a nervous last 15 minutes,
but 3 more valuable points were
gained. Cape MoM was Mike Fawson,
who marshalled the Cape defence
admirably.

West
Kirby Res 2
v 2 Capenhurst
Villa ..... Cape went a goal
down on 9 mins, 0-1, but Cape were on
top at the time, and Lewis Walters levelled on
12 mins
1-1. We then fell asleep, and the home
side restored their lead on 35 mins,
1-2. Capes Alan Locke, replied
immediately, to make it 2-2 on 37 mins, half
time 2-2. The game from thereon went
from from end to
end, and a draw was probably a fair
result, as both keepers needed to be
at their sharpest, making equally good
saves at either end. The Lively Mike
Urmston picked up the Cape MoM
award.
Capenhurst
Villa Res 2
v 0 Christleton Res
..... Another great 3 points, as Cape
hit form. After a goalless first half,
Cape stamped their superiority on the
game in the second half, with goals
from Ian Armstrong on 58
mins, and Tom Hockley on 65
mins. This was more like the Cape of
late. Lets keep it up boys. Mom was
once again Jamie Johnson, who
was a thorn in the Christleton side
throughout.

Dukinfield
Town FC 2
v 1 Capenhurst
Villa ..... Cape got off to a
flyer in this Cheshire Cup tie, when Lewis
Walters crashed in a shot off the
underside of the bar, to give us a 1-0
lead in just the first minute.
Unfortunately we couldn't hold on to
the lead and made an unfortunate exit
from the cup, as the home side scored
two second half goals to go through
2-1.
Capenhurst
Villa Res 1
v 1 Mersey Royal .....
Cape move up to 6th in the league, as
we gained a
deserved draw against high flying
Mersey Royal. The Royal took the lead
on 74mins 0-1 but Capes Tom Hockley
levelled with a cracker on 85 mins, to
take a share of the spoils 1-1. Cape
MoM was the hard working Lee Chadwick.

Capenhurst
Villa 2 v
2 Heswall Res (lost 3 v 4
after penalties) Cape,
unluckily went tumbling from the Bowl
quarter final. After an epic cup tie,
involving extra time and penalties, Cape
just missed out on a semi-final place.
After Villa twice taking the lead, with
both goals being scored via Jack
Sheppard, Heswall replied to both
goals immediately. Disappointingly, both
goals coming from set pieces. Then the
game went into extra-time with both
sides having chances, and onto the
lottery of penalties, where we were just
edged out 3-4. Two goal Jack Sheppard
deservedly earned
the Cape MoM.
Manor
Athletic Res 1 v 1 Capenhurst
Villa Res ..... Another
valuable point away at Manor, as we
continued our good form of two wins and
two draws in the last four league games.
The returning Graeme Davidson
scored, to secure a point for the
stiffs, whilst also receiving the MoM
award. So we consolidated our place in
6th, and its onwards and upwards for the
Ressies, as we eye a possible top four
finish, for the first time in a good few
years.

Villa 1 v 0
Maghull Res ..... We got back
to winning ways, with a hard fought
victory against a very decent Maghull
Res. Mark (Sparky)Ryan scored the all
important goal on 76 mins, after a
goalless first half. Both sides were
evenly matched throughout and it took
some great saves from Cape keeper Greg
Edwards to keep the visitors out. This
deservedly earned him the Cape MoM.
South
Liverpool 2 v
0 Capenhurst
Villa Res ..... An unlucky
defeat, to table toppers South
Liverpool. We could easily have been 3
up at half time, as we squandered 3 or 4
decent chances. But we didn't and they
did, as they took the chances they were
offered in the second half, and had it
not been for Cape keeper Reece Daly, the
damage could have been worse. Jamie
Johnson picked up the Cape MoM, just
shading the efforts of Matty Concannon,
who had a good game.

Villa 2 v 0
Marshalls Res Villa made a
great start to the new year, with a
hard fought win, against the battling
visitors Marshalls reserves. On a
blustery day which made conditions
tough for both sides, Cape came out on
top, with goals in each half from,
Cape MoM Mark Ryan and battling
midfielder Alan Locke. Onwards
and up that league we go boys.
Belfry FC
3 v 1 Capenhurst
Villa Res ..... A poor first
half performance lost us this game.
Belfry were 2-0 up at the half way
stage, as Cape couldn't string 2 passes
together, and needed a proper talking to
at half time to liven them up. We came
out a better side in the second half and
Graeme Davidson pulled a goal
back on 63 mins 1-2, but the damage had
already been done and we just couldn't
bag an equaliser. Belfry scored a late
goal against the run of play, to make it
1-3. MoM was Cape stalwart Duncan
Tolen.

Maghull
Reserves 1 v 5 Capenhurst
Villa ..... A great
result, as Cape went goal crazy in the
second half. Villa took a 41st minute
lead through Mark Ryan, and
went in 1-0 up at half time. But
Maghull came out with their tails up,
and scored a beauty, direct from a
free kick on 55mins, 1-1. Cape
immediately replied on 60 mins with a
header from Cam Forster 2-1.
then just 3 mins later, Capes Lewis
Walters rounded the Maghull
goalkeeper to finish off a neat move to
make it 3-1. And it was leading scorer
and live wire striker Mike
Urmston, who had the last word,
bagging a brace in the 83rd
and 88th minutes, to complete the rout
5-1.
Cape MoM was Jack Sheppard, who
must have covered every blade of
grass.

Mossley
Hill Athletic Reserves 5 v
0 Capenhurst
Villa Res ..... A bad result
and poor performance, against a decent
looking Mossley Hill Reserve side.
Cape didn't adjust to the windy
conditions as well as the home side
did, who coped much better, taking a
2-0 lead by half time. This left Cape
a mountain to climb. And apart from a
ten minute spell, where cape had 2
goal line clearances, and unluckily
hit the bar, we didn't have much to
write home about. Mossley added a
further three goals later in the
second half to cruise home 5-0
victors. Ian Armstrong claimed
the Cape MoM through his sheer
endeavour.

New
Brighton 2 v 2 Capenhurst
Villa ..... This has to count as
two points dropped as Cape let a 2-1
lead slip in the final minutes. New
Brighton took the lead 0-1, in the
40th minute against the run of play,
as Cape had made most of the running
but without finding the net. The 2nd
half was more fruitful, as Rob
McDowell levelled with a wonder
strike, just 3 minutes into the 2nd
half 1-1, and livewire and MoM Mike
Urmston put cape a goal to the
good on 71 mins 2-1. Unfortunately in
the dying minutes the home side
knocked in a hopeful cross and Capes
defence failed to deal with it, as it
found its way into the net via a Cape
head, the final result 2-2.

West Cheshire Bowl
Final 2011
Ashville 6
v 1 Capenhurst Villa
Unfortunately our last game of
the 2010-2011 season, in
the Bowl Final, didn't turn out as we
hoped. After a decent opening 15
minutes, we went 2-0 down in the space
of 2 minutes, as Ashville punished
some slack marking, with goals in the
17th and 19th mins. We kept pressing,
and were rewarded with a penalty in
the 33rd minute confidently despatched
by Capes Mark Higham 1-2. Half
time came, and we had time to
re-group, but Ashville snatched an
early goal on 49 mins, to go 3-1 up,
and from thereon it was plain sailing
for the league Champions and Cheshire
cup winners, as they ran out comfy 6-1
victors to lift the Bowl. Capes Ian
Forster claimed the MoM with a
tireless performance.
